The collection consists of Dr. Mark Swerdlow's autobiographical statement and curriculum vitae; an incomplete selection of reprints of publications; programs, reports, transcripts and articles of pain symposia; and information about professional societies devoted to pain research and treatment. Highlights include: constitution, membership lists, correspondence and several meeting programs for the Intractable Pain Society of Great Britain and Ireland (IPS) and the British & Irish chapter of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) (1972-1986); documents about the World Health Organization's (WHO) Pain Relief Programme (1981-1986); and research about the history of pain clinics (1984-1993).
